Chapter Fifteen

Ember’s heart thudded, her hands reaching up to grab onto Boyd’s wide shoulders as her lips clung to his. The feel of him, his scent and the totally focused way he kissed her threatened to make her knees dissolve. He cupped her head in his hands, his hold firm but not rough while he teased her with little nips and the feather-light stroke of his tongue.

She pressed closer, parting her lips to lick into his mouth. With a low groan he wrapped a steely arm around her back and pulled her flush to him, meeting each stroke of her tongue. Her nipples beaded tight, her breasts pressed to the hard wall of his chest and the thick ridge of his erection trapped against her lower belly.

He kissed her until she was dizzy, until she was panting, her entire body vibrating with need. Impatient for more, she reached down to slide her hands under the bottom of his shirt, palms skimming up his flat stomach to the powerful ridges of his pecs. He growled low in his throat and released her just long enough to grab his shirt and peel it over his head.

Ember drank in the sight of all those incredible ridges and hollows of muscle revealed to her gaze, running her hands over them, first his shoulders and arms, then back up to explore his chest, his tats making this even edgier. He plunged a hand into the back of her hair again and squeezed, bringing her eyes to his.

Palms pressed flat to his pecs, her breath caught at the look on his face. Here was the fire she’d glimpsed beneath the calm, remote façade. His eyes burned with intensity, lit by some inner glow, all his focus on her. A torrent of heat swept through her, raising goosebumps all over her skin.

“You sure?” he said, his voice low, calm. Belying the raging desire in his eyes.

She nodded and leaned in to kiss him again but he evaded her, his hand in her hair holding her in place. She blinked at him, his dominance making her wet and needy.

He stared directly into her eyes, jaw taut. “On your knees then, brown eyes.”

The low command, the challenge in his tone penetrated the haze of lust fogging her brain. He was testing her. Pushing her, to see whether she would balk or comply.

She wanted him and she wasn’t backing down.

She bent her head and rubbed her face against his chest, kissing his hot skin, tasting him with her tongue. He drew in a breath, his hand tightening in her hair briefly, then easing, his fingers rubbing at her scalp. Kneading it.

Ember melted, kissing her way down the hard, flat planes of his chest and stomach. Her tongue darted out to stroke and tease as she went to her knees in front of him and reached for the button on his fly.

Boyd kept hold of her hair with one hand and brushed her hands away with the other. He undid the button, grasped the tab of the zipper and paused, waiting for her to look up at him.
